About

Aesthetics In Jewelry is a family-owned jewelry shop on West Chestnut Street in downtown Louisville, founded in 1976 by James Jackson — known locally as "Jimmy the Jeweler." According to the shop's own history, Jackson's path into jewelry started almost by accident: after six years in the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power Program, he took a job as a nuclear reactor operator in Kennewick, Washington, where he began learning jewelry-making as a hobby under a semi-retired jeweler named Wes Door. That hobby eventually became a career, and Jackson moved back to his hometown of Louisville to set up shop — literally, starting out of his mother's basement doing repairs and custom work for local stores and individual customers. From there, the business moved several times before settling into its current home in the Chestnut Center building downtown, a building with its own layered history under several previous names. Today, Aesthetics In Jewelry offers vintage and custom-designed jewelry alongside repair work and engraving, with a focus on one-of-a-kind pieces built from gemstones like amethyst, blue topaz, emerald, opal, ruby, and citrine. Now approaching its 50th year in business, with a 4.8 Google rating, the shop has built its identity around that same personal, craftsman-founder story — an independent jeweler that grew from a basement hobby into a downtown Louisville fixture.
