Sutton Clock Shop

Sutton Clock Shop is a clock and watch repair shop on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, on East 82nd Street. Founded in 1949, it began as a pawn shop before its founder, trained in clock repair in his native Denmark, turned the business toward horology — and it has been an Upper East Side institution for more than sixty years, now run by his son, who apprenticed at the bench from a young age. The shop specializes in restoration and repair of clocks and barometers of nearly every type, from mantel and decorative clocks to aneroid and mercurial barometers. Restoration work here is deep and specialized: tube replacements are handled by a craftsman who hand-blows glass tubes, and damaged cases can be rebuilt by in-house woodworking artisans. Free estimates are given at intake, with a repair window provided at the same time, and house calls are available for owners who prefer an on-site visit. The shop's strength is vintage restoration — the patient, parts-tracking work of bringing long-stopped pieces back to keeping time.
